Hair Care Basics
It might be an overused saying, but it doesn’t make it any less true - your hair is your crowning glory! Though it is never healthy to put too much emphasis and pressure on any single physical feature that you have, having great hair is something that can boost your self-esteem a huge amount. This is reflected by the fact that none of us ever want to leave the house when we are having a bad hair day!
Taking care of your hair might seem like a very simple, age-old task, but there are few special elements that you should be looking out for, and they are usually to do with what kind of hair you have and what kind of products you are using.
Using the right products and techniques for your specific hair type and style is always going to put you in a better position for avoiding bad hair days.
Here are some of our favorite hair care tips, followed by a list of recommended products that are appropriate for some of the most common hair types.
Shampoo
‘Lather, rinse, repeat’ is something that you will have heard ever since you were a child. Even Phoebe wrote a song with that as a title in Friends! There is a little more to it. Most professionals recommend washing your hair two to three times a week, not every day. It should be done with lukewarm water, concentrating the shampoo on your roots and scalp, rather than the lengths.
Conditioner
Conditioner is a moisturizer for your hair. Shampoo strips your hair of essential oils and nutrients. Conditioner is designed to add them back in. It’s essential to use conditioner after shampooing to moisturize your hair and add shine, while also making it easier to comb and style.
Mask
Masks aren’t just important for your skin. Applying a weekly mask to your hair will deep treat it, repair damage, and make your hair more manageable. Hair masks work more effectively if you apply it after towel drying your hair. Apply a generous amount of the mask and gently distribute through the strands using a wide-toothed comb.
